Raks al-Maharam (2003) 5 minutes • Tunisian Scarf Dance • Choreographed by Samara • Music: Traditional Tunisian The scarf dance is a popular dance form in Tunisia. Dancers perform together as a group, and then they take turns in short solo interludes to show off a special step or move. Tunisian dance is characterized by a continuous twisting motion of the hips, and sweeping foot kicks to the front of the leg. The dancers are costumed in authentic Tunisian everyday garments — the style of which dates back to the days of Ancient Rome. |
